To start off with some worldly news, Fiji beat South Africa in the Tokyo 7's tournament. GO FIJI! It was nuts last night when we were walking home from dinner. EVERY single house had their TV on, and they were shouting and cheering! (Don't worry, we didn't watch TV, but we didn't have to because we could hear everything from outside haha) #FIJIPRIDE
It's been another sweet week in Suva 3rd Ward. This week we found 4 new investigators, had 2 baptisms, and 1 investigator even came to the baptism. It was awesome! Mostly we've been preparing our baptisms for Saturday, so we were over in their area a lot of the week.
Saturday was such a special day for both the mother and the daughter that got baptized. When the mom first started taking lessons from the sister missionaries, she couldn't read that well...her schooling wasn't fully complete and she had trouble understanding what she read. But as the sisters continued to teach her, gave her pamphlets, and the Book of Mormon, she quickly learned to read better and was able to understand the things she read. The power of the Spirit is REAL, people! She gave such a beautiful testimony on Saturday evening, and the Spirit was just so strong. I can't believe how incredibly lucky we are to watch as people begin their lives in this gospel. It's such a privilege as members, and it's important for us to remember that their journey has just begun. We need to help them. They need a friend, a calling, and continual nourishment of the word of God! (Thanks, President Hinckley)
I think a big theme that Sister Bauro and I had this week was helping people understand that NOW is the time for us to choose whom we serve. In the Bible, in Joshua 24:15, it says "Choose you this day whom ye will serve....but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” We have been trying to help our investigators and our less actives realize that we have two choices- either to serve the Lord, or to serve the adversary... and it is SO important for us to stand firm in our decision when we choose to serve the Lord. We've been focusing on helping families come together so that they can be sealed in the temple one day, and now we are trying to teach the kids that it's our choices that we make today that determine our tomorrows. I’m so grateful that in my own house growing up, we chose to serve the Lord!
