Sister T. Takes Fiji: Come What May

Spring has sprung! Well, it's pretty much always the same season here in Fiji, but I know that it's supposed to be springtime now.

Okay, so I have plenty updates this week. First, if anyone sees a kid wearing my running shoes, tackle him and take those shoes back! Some hooligan has snatched my shoes, so now I'm going pato (bare feet) just kidding, but seriously, find that kid.

Alright now to the real fun stuff. This week, we found 2 less active/part member families that we have been searching for since the very beginning of when I got here. They live in an area where people spray paint house numbers on their house...so there aren't any real numbers, people just choose their favorite numbers and go crazy! And it doesn't help that the last name was Kumar, because there are PLENTY Indian families in the area, with the last name of Kumar. So it's been a real treasure hunt, but guess what? WE FOUND THE TREASURE! Both families haven't seen missionaries for a long time now, so it was so fun getting to know them. The kids are so cute, and really love coming to church. Some of them aren't baptized yet, so we are hoping to help them if they are interested. There are these two twin boys and they both told us they wanted to be baptized, so we'll see how it goes. I think the funnest part about this whole hunt was getting to know the families. Satan was trying to keep us away from them because he knows that they could potentially become members of this true and living gospel. HA, POTE SATAN! (that's like in your face).

Also, we have found a brand new family with no ties to the gospel who are interested in taking lessons. We found the dad when we were looking for the Kumar families. He was really drunk when we found him, but he was very nice to us, and asked if we could come back on Sunday afternoon to meet his family. I told him before we left "We'll come back on Sunday, but no drinking on Saturday night!” Guess what? When we showed up, he informed us straight away "I didn't drink any alcohol last night, just grog!" (which you can get drunk on, but hey, at least it wasn't beer!) So Sunday, we met the whole family. They are really nice, and asked us to come back on Wednesday. The mother seems the most excited because she hopes we can help her husband stop drinking all the time. It's going to be exciting seeing how that goes.

We are still trying to find more and more people who are prepared to receive the gospel. We had our first experience with a text back after giving out a pamphlet. We handed a woman a Restoration pamphlet on Thursday afternoon, and explained to her a little of what it talked about. We got a text a few hours later saying, "Hi, I just read the bookelt you gave, about the man Joseph Smith. Did God and Jesus really appear to him? Because if God can appear to him, then I suppose he can appear to anyone because Joseph is a sinner like us.” WOW! We told her that yes, it is true, and to pray about the things she reads. She said she will call us back when she finishes the book and if she takes a long time to call, good thing we know where she lives :) Pray that the Spirit helps soften her heart and sparks her interest to learn more!
